Leicester was born in about 1675 in Roxbury, in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. He became an ensign in the military company stationed at Pomfret. He was also directly involved in establishing the First Church at Pomfret. He was elected annually to the Board of Selectmen for 20 years. Leicester Grosvenor, Esq., took part in the founding of Pomfret in the Colony of Connecticut, after his father, John Grosvenor, invested in the land purchased in 1686 from the natives by Major James Fitch (the Mashmuket or Mashamoquet Purchase).
